Always Be My Sister

Leah and Becky are sisters by blood, born in Canada and connected by a love that runs deep. One carries her Indian-Guyanese roots through her father; the other, her South American and Jamaican heritage. Their hair, skin, and stories may be different-but their bond is built on something stronger than similarity: care, trust, and the joy of being together.

Told through Leah’s voice, this story is written by their mother-an educator and children’s author-who beautifully captures the moments that define real sisterhood. From braiding curls with gentle fingers to dancing in their cultural dress, building blanket forts, sharing family meals, and holding hands through hard days, this book reflects the rhythms of growing up with love and difference side by side.

Always Be My Sister is a heartfelt celebration of identity, emotional connection, and cultural representation. With lyrical language and warm, expressive illustrations, it helps young readers explore what it means to belong-just as they are. This story supports social-emotional learning and invites meaningful conversations around family, diversity, and inclusion.

Perfect for ages 4 to 8, it belongs in classrooms, libraries, and homes that value stories rooted in truth, tenderness, and the beauty of all children being seen and celebrated.
